I keep coming back

There are so many areas of technology that people are talking about today whether it being Ai or longevity science or rocketry and all those are very exciting but online platforms and marketplaces is something that i always come back to.

• Marketplaces are truly phenominal business models and there are a couple of reasons for that. Here are some i can think of:

• liquidity in buyers and sellers

• network effects 

• defensibility

• comprehensive supply

• gross merchandise value

• difficult to disrupt

It is important to niche down and be clear on what the platform that you create is all about. Pick a vertical. A simple example can be: Fully furnished houses and flats (apartments) to rent instead of offering ALL types of rents available. Or, rooms to rent for college students instead of offering rooms to rent in general.
